IN&AROUND Kutetsha RESEARCH CAMP
The Kutetsha Research Camp is located in a truly stunning area of northern South Africa and offers lots of wilderness experience. No matter if you come for a couple of weeks or several months, you are not likely to get bored.
Many of the visiting researchers, students and volunteers also take the opportunity to explore South Africa a bit further, mostly by rental car but there is also cross-country bus routes and flights from Polokwane airport available.
We can only recommend to visit some of the many National Parks and to plan travelling the scenic routes of South Africa.
If you are on a shoestring budget, there is camp sites in most areas and of course travelling with several people makes it easy to cut down costs.

KRUGER & C0
The Kutetsha Research Camp is about 3 hours from the north of Kruger National Park (Punda Maria Gate) and about 2 hours from Blouberg Nature Reserve and Mapungubwe National Park. The Waterberg with Marakele National Park and famous Panorama route are also within half a days reach. The north of South Africa also offers many private conservation areas worth visiting such as Limpokwena. The area north of the Soutpansberg bordering Zimbabwe and Botswana is also home to the last free-roaming Lion populations in South Africa (for more see Green Dogs Conservation).
BIRDING & CO
The southern slope of the western Soutpansberg is also a great spot for birding. From Crowned and Verreaux eagle, Narina Trogon to Sunbirds and Woodowl it is a true birders paradise.
If you like the outdoors, the mountain offers plenty of nice hiking trails to explore the Soutpansberg in all its beauty. Existing trails vary between in length and effort but for those keen to really get out there, accommodation of neighbouring properties such as Leshiba can be arranged.
Thanks to the Kutetsha river going through the property there is water around every corner. During the hot summer months students much enjoy having a quick dip in the river or spending a Sunday at one of the bigger pools.
